Hmm, with a large community that just isn't good. The idea is to make life easier on the admin, not harder.

If users could delete themselves they might do so accidentally, or any time they were to get angry about something. And some members might try and trick others into deleting themselves inadvertently. Account deletion is *not* something I want my members doing under any circumstances. That said, I'm sure a hack either exists or could be written to allow this if it's really what you want...

what you could do to make it easier, is to have a policy that if you dont post for 6 months, you can be removed - and be required to re-regester.

then in the admin cp you can search users who havent posted for 6 months....and delete them.

One question, why would you want to delete them? Who cares if they are in the database, they dont take up much space.......

I send out a monthly newsletter and for legal reasons I have to give them an opt out. I guess having them turn off admin emails would be the same, but most just want their entire account removed.

How about adding a user-selectable usergroup "newsletter". Opt-in is always the better solution, believe me. And I would be more than glad, if us-laws would do it that way too. European laws already preferr the opt-in-solution.

About the account-removal: We always deny that, if the user has more than one post made. Just because it is a terrible thing to have all that postings set to "Guest" and in the end noone knows whow was who. And also this complies with german laws. Because we only have to delete them if it isn't too mach hassle for us.

Why don't you tell them, that you can block their accounts? And you don't send the newsletter to this usergroup.
