Who's online: disabling to reveal what admins are doing

    Hi, I am running VB3 RC4

On the 'who's online' page, my users see the phrase "Admin Control Panel" or "Admin Control Panel Login" or "editing someone else's post" on the location column when an admin is in the ACP (or editing someone else's post).

I just want the mods and other admins to see that an admin is currently in the ACP. And I want regular users NOT to see that an admin is in the ACP (or editing messages, banning users...).

What is the easiest way to do this?

    This is set per Usergroup:

    Who's Online Permissions
Can View Who's Online Yes No
Can View Detailed Location Info for Users Yes No
Can View IP Addresses Yes No
Can View Detailed Location Info of Users Who Visit Bad / No Permission Locations Yes No
Can view actual location of user (filepath/url). Yes No

Set the first option ("Can View Who's Online") to 'Yes' (and the rest to 'No') for those groups you do not want to see detailed Who's Online Information. Set them all to 'No' for any groups that you don't want to see Who's Online at all.

      ok
      but my problem is,

On the Who's online page, I want ONLY the mods and admins to see that an admin or mod is doing administrative work.

And I want every other user to see what mods and admins are doing, EXCEPT when they are doing administrative work.

      Hope I explained it better.

        I understand

You will accomplish your goal (or come as close as possible without hacking) if you set the permissions for Who's Online as I recommended above for the Usergroups you wish to hide the Administrative actions from:

        Can View Who's Online Yes
Can View Detailed Location Info for Users No
        Can View IP Addresses No
Can View Detailed Location Info of Users Who Visit Bad / No Permission Locations No
Can view actual location of user (filepath/url). No

Have you logged in as a registered user and watched Who's Online? With the Permissions set as indicated it's different from what you see as Admin...

It is already set like that.

But when I log in as a normal user and go to Who's online, I still see the administrative actions of admins.

You shouldn't if you have those options set correcty. Which specific actions do you see?

              I see, for example

              John -- 14:26 -- Admin Control Panel
Mike -- 14:23 -- Admin Control Panel Login
              ...

But neither of these shows any detailed locations.

Right. But I don't want users to see these indications either, for the sake of keeping administrators secret.

The only workaround I thought of is to change the phrases in the language settings. ie I will change

Admin Control Panel ---> Forum Home Page (or something else)

But this way, admins can't see what other admins are doing.

Can you include this feature (hiding admin staff) in future releases?

If your making suggestions for a future release you should make them in the Suggestion forum.

In the meantime, you can either ask for a hack at vBulletin.org, or simply go "invisible" when you're in a location you don't want seen by regular members.
