for the record Fred, enabling the "allowing deletion of attachments in closed threads" option in the admin panel solved the problem apparently. The delete button came back.

I'll look later today as it is most likely just missing a conditional check.

[..,.] but I'm just posting this for others with the delete button issue to re-open the topics where your members have attachements. That should solve their missing delete button issue.
Same in my forum (vb 3.01) First reported 3 months ago from one users and this afternoon again. Open all threads can not be the solution of the problem, to get the button back again, for those attachments in open and editable threads. Seems to be a bug, that should be fixed.

You had it set to "No" because that is what the default is.

hmmmn ... just to let you know ... I had this window open since this morning and didn't see the last post. I indeed had the "allow deletion of attachements in closed threads" set to NO for some reason (didn't even realise there was such an option). The time limit option was set to yes.

Now they're telling me the forum is all black and white to them (like after you log-out). I just solved the above part of this problem earlier today, so I haven't been able to get the black and white details yet, but I'm just posting this for others with the delete button issue to re-open the topics where your members have attachements. That should solve their missing delete button issue.

I'll see why the button is missing but maybe these two options will also be helpful to you. They are in the Message Attachment options section.

Allow Deletion of Attachments in Closed Threads
Allow Deletion of Attachments Beyond Edit Time Limit

ok, I doublechecked and you and Steve are right. The ones where no checkbox appears is a closed thread. However, why can't the user delete attachments from the thread that isn't closed? The ones with checkboxes. Also, is it possible for an admin to delete a user's attachments via the admin panel or does the admin have to manually edit the posts? I couldn't find an option in the admin panel.

Steve: I'm running the latest VBulletin, 3.0.1

No, it would show the attachments but not allow you to delete them because the thread is closed.
