  • change language to an unregistered users

i have a site that runs in 2 languages - hebrew and english. i have made a small addition to the menu which lets the users switch between the languages (by changing the user settings in the db) however this is not a good solution since it can not be done to new users/users that have not yet logged in.
is there any way around this ? the way i am currently using is really not a good once since an english user that needs to do the registration in hebrew (and vice versa) will simply move on to the next site

    suggestions will be appriciated

Users should already be able to change their language preference in the User CP without any need to change the db.

At this time the registration process will be in the default language. After they register they can change it in ther User CP. Others have made the suggestion to add this option to the registration page, which I think is a good idea. However at this time that option is not available without hacking.

ok, perhaps i did not explain myself currectly
as far as i can tell the only way a user can change his language settings is by changing the value in the languageid field in his user settings (in the db table) . sadly this solution is not a good one since, as i said before a person who does not speak/read hebrew will have a hard time registering in the site in hebrew...

i have no problem with doing a little hack the question is, did anyone actually did such a thing and if so any leads on how to do it ? my guess is saving the languageid as a cookie but it will require redoing a couple of the functions (i think).

That's not correct. The users can change the language in the User CP 'Edit Options' under 'Forum Language'.

Note, you need to set 'Allow User Selection' to 'Yes' for these languages in the Language Manager.

i am aware of that but as i said before i need the user to change the language before registering to the forum (he can not read the registration form...) now as far as i can see you can only enter the user cp when you are a registered user...

Okay, but as I said this is not a feature at this time and will require hacking:

i understand that, but since i really do need this i was wondering if someone has already made the effort to do such a thing, or at least can point me in the right direction (thats why i posted the question on "how do i" forum ).
