            Is there any chance the vB team could review the page listed on this german site and post an english version that works?
            I tried a translator on it and it was not very clear.

                Please note that this hack is for PHP versions which work as CGIs.
                It doesn't solve other problems with the archive.

                Sure, here you go:

                #SCHRITT 1# = Step 1 (2,3, ...)

                # Suchen nach: # = Search for

                # -> Ersetzen mit: # = Replace with

                # -> Erstelle eine neue .htaccess Datei mit folgendem Inhalt: # = Create a new .htaccess file with the following content

                # -> Bearbeite die zuvor erstellte .htaccess Datei folgendermaßen: # = Edit the .htaccess file as follows

                !!ERSETZ MICH!! = Replace me

                # FERTIG! # = That's It

                # -> Übertrage die .htaccess Datei nun ins /archive/ Verzeichnis. # = Upload the .htaccess file to the /archive directory.

                Questions? Post them!

                Isn't this reeeaaally nifty?

                  mod_rewrite isn't really that scalable so on a large server there will be a performance loss.

                  The problem with CGI's versions is a PHP bug which is in the bug tracker but not yet resolved link http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=25047

                    Not being very knowlegable on all this....
                    Scott
                    Are you saying that it is not recomended to do the above as there could be issues down the line? Will the team ever release a version that will run correctly with both module and cgi in the future say as a fix later on?

                      I just tried this hack from the Germany site.

                      I'm running PHP under CGI.

                      Link to my archive:

                            Apache 2.0 Configuration

                            Since I don't like .htaccess files, and since the Apache manual warns against them (use them only as a last resort), I wanted to ensure that everybody noticed that you can fix this in your Apache configuration as part of your directory definitions, thusly:
                            Code:
                            <Directory "{directory path to forums}/archive">
                            		Options Indexes Includes FollowSymLinks

                            		AllowOverride None
                            		Allow from from all
                            		Order allow,deny

                            		AcceptPathInfo On

                            </Directory>
                            The key is to have the line "AcceptPathInfo On" defined for some directory at or below where the archive exists.

                            == Bill

                              There are many hosts that haven't upgrade to apache 2.0 anything for 1.3??

                                I can't think of any way to make the archive feature work for 1.3 since it relies totally on that AcceptPathInfo feature of 2.0. In other words, the hard coding of the archive script can't work if that feature isn't present. You might try to write your own version of the archive script, but finding a host with 2.0 is probably easier.
