The cookieproblems mentioned are indeed a fact. I've upgraded to gamma and the first tests are showing wierd problems with cookierelated forumsurfing. When a member is posting bold text in the wysisyg editor for a new thread he/she is logged out immediatly. (???)

Well it seems to me to be a gamma issue.. we installed a test board (http://gammarun.pokecommunity.com) and at first all was ok, then over a few days the admins/users couldn't log in (and I tried to use mozilla, it had NO access at all), and so on... we have cleared all related cookies and double checked the cookie path (/gammarun/) and cookie domain (gammarun.pokecommunity.com, so there is no mix up with our production board) and all seems set corectly. perhaps there IS a ghost bug here some where?

Sorry, I don´t know if this is the correct thread to post my problem. It seems so:

In my testboard some user (3) have a login-problem with IE (6.x) on client site (I can login on my machine with their username and password). But the member can´t login, they get a welcome massage and after that they where not login. At 2 members it works fine with Netscape but not with IE.
They deleteted the cookies (after that they closed IE and restart it) but the problem is still the same.

I´ve tried to rename the cookie path but nothing happens (only that I can´t login in the acp, so I used the login_xx.php to fix it). I called one of the user and we checked all IE settings and deleted the cookies step by step. I can´t believe that it is only a client problem!?
I remember a user-setting in VB2 called "browse board with cookies" and if it was not active some userser had have trouble. But I can´t find such a setting in vb3.

Any ideas to find the cause?

        Regards
        André

        The path to the testboard:

ok, know we have a solution. maybe someone can use it.
2 users has opened the testforum AND the real forum. after they closed the real forum they have no problems to login after deleting the cookies.
one user has to create a new account to get access, after that he also has no problems after deleting the cookies.
I have changed the global.php to delte the login-form for guest and I have changed some acp parameters (I don´t know wich) after the first (not working) user has created.
now all seems OK with the cookies

tip: create a test-user for everyone to check if it is a user-problem.

          Regards
          André

I am starting to get users complaining of similar issues

I am running RC1 with the patch... I dont have login issues but I have 4 or 5 users that are complaining that they have to login again after a few minutes.

My cookie settings havent changed in a LONG time ( 6 months )

I told them to find cookie folder and hit F3 and search for TALON cookies and delete them - at least one person claims it didnt help

I JUST replicated the problem on my PC - I log in - I have remmber me checked - I poke around a while - If I close that browser window - I have to log back in.....

I deleted 2900 cookies to test the clear all cookies theory .. That didnt help.

Clearly something has chaged in the software recently BUT I havent made any changes to the cookies settings in months...

It has been blank for at least a year BUT today I set the cookie domain to .talonclub.com to see if it helped.. - no change

It appears the cookie no longer contains the pssword section...

I also noticed that the cookie from this site is named [email protected][1].txt
while the cookie from my sites are named [email protected] or [email protected]www.domain.com.txt

I am still using RC1 since there is no changed files list for RC2 and I cant afford the time to reupdate all the banners, templates etc....

              Please help
              Doug

                  I tried the mycookies.php....

It didnt work BUT it did raise a question.....

How many of us that are having problems are running PHPads ?

The only change I made recently was upgrading to the recent version of Phpadsnew. I remember it cause I finally fixed the maintenance script that hasnt run in months....

My members started complaining about the login issue about 4 days ago .....
I cant be sure when I upgraded phpadsnew BUT it was about that time...

I have no idea how they can be related but - I BET that the issues are related cause PHPads is making cookies

And troubleshooting 101 says "did it ever work ?"

If that's the case have you tried setting the vB cookie prefix in config.php?

// Prefix that all vBulletin cookies will have
                    // For example
                    $cookieprefix = 'bb';

I didnt see a cookie prefixsection so i added your code to config.php

It didnt seem to make any difference.

In an attempt to rule out phpads I renamed the phpads folder to keep the ads from showing and that didnt seem to make any difference either...

the phpads section is no longer in the cookie however...

In watching the cookie file contents, after I login it has the password hash section - and that remains after I close the browser - BUT as soon as I open another browser window and renenter the site it reverts back to a cookie with just vblastactivity and vblastvisit - no password section ....

That section was added in RC1 I believe.

                          Well - i guess I didnt upload the config.php with RC1

I JUST uploaded the RC2 files - which I have been hesitant to do to avoid a bunch of rework since there is no list of changed files...

I havent run the upgrade script yet BUT the issue is gone....

I will take the board off line then run the upgrade and then readd the photopost images bar and see when it breaks...

                            OK

                            Prior to 10 min ago I was running RC1 with the previous ( pre rc1 ) config.php. (oops )

I had been holding off upgrading to rc2 since there was no changed files list - I figured RC3 was around the corner and I would wait and HOPE there was a changed files list .. Oh well ... SInce Steve has been working hard to try to fix my cookie issues I went ahead and backed up the files. then uploaded the RC2 fiiles. I forgot to close the forum first - BUT as soon as I uploaded the RC2 files the cookie issue was gone.

I assumed that it was due to the fact that the this line ( include('./photopost/photopostpal.php'); is added to index.php file underthe // ### REQUIRE BACK-END #### section to make photopost featured pictures section work.

Well I redited the new index.php and the photo post random pictures section is back and the cookeis issue seems gone....

Unfortunatley that means it was either my having the OLD config.php file or some other random file in VB had been changed ....

Oh well. Thanks for sticking with it steve....

It's always advisable to upgrade to the latest version when having problems. This way to take advantage of all bug fixes and optimizations.

Steve, I'm searching through about 5 or I dunno now, threads on these cookie issues, I am experincing some simlair issues.

                                I have RC2 installed an photopost 4.6

I'm going between this forum and photopost to find the issue.
