The mysql database does appear to be confusing at first. But it is very important that you learn how to delete and create a new database so that in an emergency you can quickly recover and create a new database from your backup.

    Do you have phpmyadmin?

when you start the install script it gives you the option to drop all tables in the database.

Make sure that its completely empty.

I assume you have a shared server. Many web hosting companies offer phpmyadmin. Call yours and ask if they offer it. Ask them what type of utility they offer for you to administer your mysql database.
