Well, I've changed my mind and now I'm afraid I'm going to mess something up.

Right now I have my website redirecting straight to /forums subdirectory. My plan was to install a front page once vcontent came out (or whatever its name will be). Now I've found that I like having no front page and having the site dump you directly into the forums.

So now I want to move everything to the root directory instead of the /forums subdirectory.
How do I do this? Can I just move everything over or am I going to mess something up if I do that?

    Thanks!

You will have to copy everything in the forums directory and sub-directories to your root directory (and new sub-directories.) After you've done this and made sure it works correctly, you can delete the forums directory and everything under it.

Be sure to change the URL to your forums in the Admin CP after doing this.

      Thanks for your response!

Can it be moved back just as easily?

Sure, just note what files and sub-directories there are, in case there's other files in the root directory.

So much easier to write an .htaccess file.

People often ask for what they think they need instead of what they really need.

If you're going to move it like that, and your site is already pretty popular, there would be a benefit in using mod_rewrite in /forums/ to redirect any links that already to go /forums/ back to /.
