Need some quick advice on which tables to move...

I'm FINALLY getting it together and purchased a dedicated server for my Cadillac forums.. I'm setting things up right now - and I'm copying ALL my tables from where the forums CURRENTLY reside - into my PhpAdmin CP on the DEDICATED site..

At the moment, there are still people posting in the old forums. What I'd like to do is shut down the boards for 20 minutes this evening, switch over the name servers, then copy whatever tables I need in order to pick up whatever posts, etc I may have new posts in since I copied the tables a little earlier, and then switch my OLD vB to look for my NEW vB URL..

If I explained myself well enough - that sounds crazy. Right? Well anyway - which tables are the ones I need to bring over from this point on? Just to pick up those last few posts or whatever...

I don't know how to do that via SSH. I've never used SSH before. Oh and - I don't have SSH access where my forums are hosted NOW. So it's taking a really LONG time doing it this way. I have timeouts and everything. So I'm just going to be really happy when it's all actually over and finished - and I figured I'd clean up a few tables at the end..

Is there a better way? Maybe I should just shut the whole board down and do it? The problem is, I even still have some configuring to do after this.. I don't see any easy way to copy over all my old settings from vB b4 to vB b7 on this new server.. Or am I missing something?

You are going to have to backup and restore the majority of your tables anyway. You get get by without searchindex, word and adminlog.

Frankly I would ask your host to make this backup for you.

Otherwise.. Is there any way to import my settings from one server to another? Is there a set of files or anything that can be transfered? I know vB3 betas don't do any importing yet.. Is that the problem?

No, all the data is in the database. I would backup and restore all the tables except the ones I mentioned above.

I've got everything backed up to my hard drive but I'm timing out on the upload.. Any advice on getting that information onto my new server?

I've been using PhpMyAdmin to IMPORT these SQL files into my new database.. Is there a way to FTP these files into the database? If so... Quick lesson?

No, you cannot use FTP to restore the sql backup. You need shell access via telnet or ssh to do this - or you can continue trying with phpMyAdmin.

I think I just figured it out - with some help from a friend. I need to FTP the SQL files to a folder on my server - and then Shell 'em in with:

"mysql -u username -p databasename < /path/to/sqlfile.sql"

So if I've got it - and I copy over ALL the tables from my old vB3 b4 to this fresh installation of vB3 b7 - everything will be good to go?

Yes, you can do this through shell as I posted previously. After restoring the beta 4 db you will need to run upgrade.php to upgrade the db to beta 7.

Oh, I didn't know that.. Okay. So after everything is up and running, just go and run that upgrade.php file and it'll take it from there..

I've already installed b7 on that server.. Will that screw anything up? Should I just go back and download b4 and install THAT first? I'm guessing NO - it'll be okay...

No, just running upgrade.php should be sufficient.
