  • Cron Job vs AdminCP Backup

When I backup my database via the cron job in my cpanel it is approx 20 mb smaller than if i back it up from the control panel... any ideas why?

here is the cron statement im using:

mysqldump --opt -u*MYUSERNAME HERE* -p*MY PASSWORD HERE* accordt_board > path to my backup.sql

thanks in advance for any help...

IIRC, the vb backup uses more whitespace than mysqldump.

No, you're not missing anything. Besides the mysqldump is a mor ereliable backup than the one in the Admin CP.

You can actually trim the backup further by declaring the tables to back up.

For example you dont need the search index and some other tables. There are a couple posts here that outline how to backup just the critical tables. I posted a while back in the VB2 section a post detailing the cron script I run to backup selected tables and ftp the backup to my home PC everynight. I borrowed the script from someone here and modified it ....
