How do I increase my max_connections??

I have a dedicated box and the mysql max_connections is set 100 (default) I need to change it to 500. How do I do this?? I can't seen to figure it out.

the setting is in /etc/my.cnf

You really should go the the Server Configuration forum and ask for additional my.cnf settings.
