  • Can I change the DOCTYPE?

What will I break in vB3 by changing DOCTYPE to
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    from
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

IT's just that I'm using some layers and stuff and they wouldn't arrange properly without changing it.

    Cheers.

I've just done a little test on my own forum (most templates still default, and only minor changes to others) and everything still seems to work fine if I change the DOCTYPE.

It seems perfectly safe, and wont break the vB.

Yes that is fine, except that some browser may get confused when they see a doc type for HTML 4 and then read code that is XHTML.

Why do you want to change?

Because my layout was getting stuffed, I've used a heap of CSS eg. layers div tags etc... and some weird stuff that was to get around IE's silly CSS bugs... and it was just coming up completely weird and I couldn't tell why, the only difference was the DOCTYPE, so I changed that.. and poof, problem dissapears.

I thought maybe it would have problems with like.. the WSIWYG editor and stuff...
