  • + in email address not allowed?

I had a member email me that a + is not allowed in an email address when registering. He says:

The registration form rejected my completely valid email address choice, probably because it includes the '+' character. The most popular email server on the planet--sendmail--accepts the use of the '+' character for creating an infinite number of automatic mail aliases, which are very useful for sorting incoming mail. For example, my base email address is [email protected] , but for a given site, I use [email protected]. This is an absolutely valid practice that should be allowed by the registration validation code.

the + is used for login names, not for the actual email address.

    unlimited @ mysite.com

    info @ mysite.com
    username: info+mysite.com
    pass: whatever
    email: [email protected]
    not : [email protected]

As far as I can determine, RFC2822 defines the "+" as a valid character when used to the left of the @.

The + can be used in email addresses as Freddie (and my "hopefully" future member) pointed out.
