Username markup inheritence?

I'm the admin of my forum. I've created a sustom usergroup for donators called "Premium Users". I want premium users to have a styled username, defined by the Username HTML Markup of the usergroup. I checked Premium Mamber as an Additional Usergroup for myself so that users could see what a Premium Member would look like in the forum.

My username is not being displayed with the html styling. When I set Premium Member to be my primary usergroup, it works. I haven't defined any html style for the Admin usergroup.

Why doesn't the child usergroup username style override the paren't style if it hasn't been defined?

I'm not sure I follow what you did but the way I did this was to create a customer profile field for my premium members (only editable by me), then added this field to the postbit template.

Sorry if I was confusing. Let me try to explain.

I'm an Admin. My primary usergroup is "Administrators".

I set up a custom usergroup "Premium Members". I edited the "Username HTML Markup" field to change the appearence of the username of members of this group.

I added Premium Members as an "Additional Usergroup" for my account.

Because the Username HTML Markup fields are blank in the settings for the Administrators user group, I would expect the settings of the Premium Members usergroup to change the appearence of my username on the forum. However, this is only the case when Premium Members is the primary usergroup of the account.

Is that clearer?

Yes. Unfortunately that's the way it works. The primary user group title takes preference - even if it's blank.

Hmmm that's a conundrum... Should this be marked as a bug? Or could a feature be added to "Let username markup in additional usergroups take precedence over blank primary groups"?

Can you suggest a workaround that wouldn't involve changing the style of all user titles of Admins?

The workaround is what I posted in my first message and what I've done on my forums.

As for a 'bug' I don't think this qualifies. However feel free to add this to the 3.1 suggestion thread.

There is a setting in the usergroups that allow secondary settings to override the primary group. If you check this, the title should show up properly.

If your talking about admincp, there is also an option in the USERCP that makes the custom secondary usergroup override the first?

Yes, under usergroups, the user can choose which group they want to be displayed under which effects any markup as well.

Where exactly would I find this in the Usergroup Manager? I don't see that check box option anywhere.

It's in the "Public Group Settings" section.

But this still won't accomplish what he wants. The primary group will always prevail unless a user selects a secondary group to be his display group.

But if he adds that group to the user as a secondary group, it should work. (And that's what he's doing.)
