Nothing is stored in the files, you can overwrite them, the database remains .. in the database.
    http://www.vbulletin.com/go/backup backup first
http://www.vbulletin.com/go/restore restore if it all goes wrong

Also back up your 3.0 files of course.

Just upload the new 3.6.8 files, update config.php.new to config.php and edit it to point it to the database.

    And then run upgrade.php

    Upgrade from 3.0.7 to 3.6.8

The forum is version 3.0.7, i've downloaded 3.6.8, trouble is i don't think i can override the old version without risk of losing the database. Not sure how much risk is involved either.
So to save the database i need to use SSH seeing as the database is so big..this is new to me, anyone got any tips? i've now got putty but it's a minefield!..What is the risk of just overwriting but taking out the config.php and the index.php files? and inserting them after?

I need to delete the install.php too before uploading i think?!

    From the readme:-

    Note:
These instructions are for 3.5.0 and higher. If you are upgrading from vBulletin 3.0.x to 3.5.0, you will also need to recreate your includes/config.php file based on the new version of includes/config.php.new. Please see this page in the installation section on how to edit the config file. This step is not necessary for individual upgrades within the 3.0.x or 3.5.x series.
If you are upgrading from vBulletin 3.5.x to vBulletin 3.6.x you do not need to edit the config.php file.

Obviously i'll have to upload tools.php so when i stop the board i can get into admincp.
    But what to do?
    Anyone got 1st hand experience?

    thanks
