  • Moving to new Win2k3 + IIS6 box before upgrading

Trying to install 3.0.7 on faster server so I can move existing site over (and then upgrade to 3.6)

However step 5 (Insert Default Data) hangs about 1/4 way into process.
It last reports "Inserting default data in language"

and then right below displays the "...having a slight problem..." message.

    Any suggestions?

Why are you trying to install 3.0.7?

Anyway, right click, view source, paste the error message.

      Moving to new server.
I need to move and upgrade.
It was recommended that I move 3.0.7 first.
Then I should upgrade to 3.6.

Perhaps this is a mySQL error? Installed mysql 5.0 for use with vB 3.6.

Here's the pertinent block from the install problem:

      Code:
      <li>Inserting default data into language</li>
<!-- INSERT INTO language (title, languagecode, charset, decimalsep, thousandsep) VALUES ('English (US)', 'en', 'ISO-8859-1', '.', ',') -->

      <html><head><title> Database Error</title><style type="text/css"><!--.error { font: 11px tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; }--></style></head>
      <body></table></td></tr></table></form>
      <blockquote><p class="error">&nbsp;</p><p class="error"><b>There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.</b><br />
Please try again by pressing the <a href="javascript:window.location=window.location;">refresh</a> button in your browser.</p><p class="error">An E-Mail has been dispatched to our <a href="mailto:<ourdomaintechemail>">Technical Staff</a>, who you can also contact if the problem persists.</p><p class="error">We apologise for any inconvenience.</p></blockquote>

        But wait..

You do not need to istall vBulletin if you are migrating data. If you have a backup it just needs to be restored. If this is a fresh install with NO prior data, just install vBulletin 3.6

          I'm happy to wait...

Steve gave me the move/upgrade recommendation here:
          http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198617

Are you saying I can restore a 3.0.7 database directly into a fresh 3.6 install?

No, I'm not sure where you are getting this " I need to install" idea from.

Here are the steps you need to follow.

            Restore your database
            Upload the 3.6.0 files
Configure 3.6.0 to use the 3.0.7 Database
            Run install/upgrade.php

              Cool!

When steve said move the database and files over and make sure it works, it sounded like I needed a working 3.0.7 install.

I have 3.6 already running fine.

So all I need to do is restore **just** the 3.0.7 db and then tell 3.6.0 to use the 3.0.7 database?

<<sorry to be SO precise about this>>

You'll Also need to run the upgrade script.

                        I thought it was clear.

                        "Move the db"
"Move the ... files" (by which I assume you meant vB3.0.7 files)
"Make sure everything works" (by which I assume you meant I needed a working 3.0.7 site)

                        ...and then upgrade to 3.6

If you had the 3.0.7 files, and restored a 3.0.7 database it'd work. Theres no need to run the installer.

But the new box has a different version of mySQL/php on it.

I can move all the files, but 3.0.7 won't run unless I reinstall for the new components.

I'm guessing the 3.0.7 install is having probs because of mySQL 5.

Thats not true, I'd guess that its mysql5 causing the issues, you probally won't be able to install vB 3.0.7 or run it in mysql 5.

Like we said, REstore the database, upload the 3.6.0 files, run the upgrade.
