mysql error: The table 'attachment' is full error message

Today our users started having troubles uploading attachments. Below is the error message I am being sent. How can I or my host fix this?

To add to this, the table is 4.0GB and has 51,820 records.

You've reach the max filesize limit possibley not only for your filesystem, but also mysql

I urge you to think about exporting your attachments into the filesystem!
