  • Usergroup Default Settings

    Is there a way to edit the default posting settings for a particular usergroup?

    I want all of a particular usergroup's posts to appear in a different color/font than the current default, would this be possilbe?

    There's no setting, but you could hack something together by editing the templates.

    You'd edit the div surrounding the messagetext, and add an if conditional with the appropriate style variables.

      Colin,

      Sounds good - could you provide more information on how I could edit it for a particular usergroup only? (sorry, I'm not yet a pro at editing templates!)

        Edit your postbit template.
        Find:
        Code:
        <div id="post_message_$post[postid]">$post[message]</div>
        Replace that with:
        Code:
        <div id="post_message_$post[postid]" <if condition="is_member_of($post, 6)">style="font:1.5em Garamond;"</if>>$post[message]</div>
        Replace 6 with the usergroupid.
        Replace font:1.5em Garamond; with whatever style options you want.
        Best Regards

          I did the search/replace under "Styles & Templates" and it couldn't find the bit you referenced (<div id="post_message_$post[postid]">$post[message]</div>) - I feel like I'm looking in the wrong space.

          How would I find the postbit template to edit it?

            In your Style Manager, click on Edit Templates, and look through the list of templates for the postbit templates.

              I feel like I'm doing something wrong, I can't find:

              <div id="post_message_$post[postid]">$post[message]</div>
              in any of the postbit templates. I also did a search for "post_message" and couldn't find that either - the only piece I found that referenced "message" is:

              <!-- message -->
              <div>$post[message]</div>
              <!-- / message -->
              Is that the bit I should be editing?

              More Info:
              I'm running 3.0.5 and according to the style manager, we haven't edited any of the postbit files. We are using the legacy postbit, so I assume that means I would need to edit the postbit_legacy file - is this causing my pain?

                That's the problem
                The template has been updated in the meantime.
                Yes, what you found is the bit you're looking for.

                And yes, you'll have to apply change to the postbit_legacy template.
                Best Regards

                  Thanks for your help!

                  Ok, I've got one more question -- I've got the by usergroup working. Is it possible to then limit it by forum/subforum.

                  So using this forum as an example, the same usergroup would have the changed settings for the 3.0 forum, but not the 3.5 forum?

                    That'd be a bit more complicated.
                    You could add this to the conditional:

                    AND $forumid == 32

                    making:
                    Code:
                    <if condition="is_member_of($post, 6) AND $forumid == 32">
                    Add more forums by using OR $forumid == 34 and so on.
                    Best Regards
