  • Upgrade questions!

    Hello,

I am now using 3.0.9, but I want to upgrade to 3.0.12. I hacked some mods for my forum. So, when I upgrade, will I lose my hacked mods? How to keep them? In honesty, It took a lot of my time, I really dont want to hack them again. Do someone know how to do?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, add them back in, if your not willing to add them back in, stop adding so many hacks.

You could also opt to upgrade to 3.5.3 which would still wipe out your hacks, but you'd also get the plugin system which avoid having to rehack each upgrade to a great extent.

Thank you. Is it difficult to upgrade to 3.5.3? I have never worked with 3.5.x. is there any diffirent with 3.0.12 and 3.5.3? I mean about security or some kind of that.

The upgrade process to 3.5.x should not be difficult. It would be the same procedure as upgrading within 3.0.x, upload the files and run upgrade script. There are however a few thinks to think about before you upgrade:
        - Your vB3.0 hacks will not work anymore. Big advantage of switching to 3.5.x would be that it supports the plugin system, making installing (and later upgrading your vB version) of hacks a piece of cake. There are hardly any hacks for 3.5 that still require manual source edits.
        - Your Styles from 3.0 will not work on 3.5.x anymore, you will need to redo them.

What kind of effect you mean?
It will ofcourse continue to work.
It might get a little bigger.

What MySQL version are you running?
What is your current vB version?

Upgrading to a new vB version will not make you loose any of the standard vBulletin data (so this includes posts).
