  • Database Backup

    i'm just about to perform and upgrade on my forum.

    went into AdminCP and then into the database backup section. however, i get a massive error page appear.

    Code:
    Warning: fopen(/forumbackup-2ndJanuary2006.sql): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /pscadmincp/backup.php on line 172
    DROP TABLE IF EXISTS testing; CREATE TABLE `testing` ( `field1` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '', `field2` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '', `field3` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '' ) TYPE=MyISAM;
    Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /pscadmincp/backup.php on line 177

    Processing: testing
    DROP TABLE IF EXISTS vb3_access; CREATE TABLE `vb3_access` ( `userid` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `forumid` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `accessmask` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`userid`,`forumid`) ) TYPE=MyISAM;
    Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /pscadmincp/backup.php on line 177

    Processing: vb3_access
    but thats followed by even more messages, far to many to post.

    whats happenend? what do i need to do. forum has been working fine.

    i'm upgrading from 3.0.6. to 3.5.2.

    thanks in advance.

    To do this you need to chmod the admincp directory to 777.

    Note: The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

    This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result inPHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file.

          Yes, but from shell is the best, that way you know for sure it didn't timeout, etc.

            i'm still waitng for the Host to get ack to me on that.

            i've downloaded PuTTy, just need to check the settings and whether or not i have shell access or not.

            other than that i'm ready to go on this upgrade.

            the 3.5 files are read to be uploaded, i've editted the config.php file.

            i'm really nervous about this upgrade.

              You could try and see if ssh is already enabled.
              You can use putty to test telnet/ssh to the ports, with the same details as your ftp server.

                  I'd try puntosports.co.uk, and yes, the ftp user/pass

                    Shell access is not enabled on your account!
                    If you need shell access please contact support.

                    looks like its not.

                            Contact the hosting provider and request access.

                            Or try the backup from the cpanel. Usually it works, but it is slower, and harder to check if it is complete.

                              ok, i've already performed a backup using cPanelX. downloaded a 70mb .gz file.
