question about PM's

One of my users is asking "If you delete a PM from your inbox, is it still stored in the database?".
The issue has come up that made the users aware that admins can read PM's. Hence the question.
Do any of you admins regularly read your users PM's. If so how do you do it? I really can't imagine anyone would have time to do this, but if the need arises, it's good to know how.

There is no undelete feature for PM's, they are physically removed.

No, there's no default feature to read the PM's from the members. But they are stored in plain text in the database, so through tools like phpmyadmin the admin COULD read it.
