1. Please read the Importing HOWTO thread:
Take special note of The End Game section. Following these steps should solve those issues.
2. It sounds like you imported the users twice.
Installation went fine, but...

Ok.. I have been able to get the transfer in.. and now from the admincp I show all the users, threads and all of that but from the main page I don't show ANY of the posts or anything.. how come what is shown in the backend not showing up in the forum?
www.xlr8web.com/fanzone/
and it also uploaded the users twice - once with their username and then once with imported_username..
what gives..Leave a comment:

I would actually have to backup the database from phpbb2 from the other site.. should that be done ssh also?Leave a comment:

Try the IP address only. However this is not going to work unless that server is configured to allow remote MySQL connections from your server, which is unlikely. You may need to backup and restore that database to your vB server.
The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. Please see the instructions here:

Restore:

It is on a different server so for hostname I am not using local... do I need to point it to the IP address of that server or what.. http://70.85.xxx.xxx???Leave a comment:

This means that the source db info in your ImpExConfig.php file is wrong and you cannot connect to that phpBB database.Leave a comment:

Ok that worked.... NOW.. I am trying to use the Import from phpbb2 and when i run it I get this error..
Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /impex/db_mysql.php on line 248
Any ideas?Leave a comment:

This is probably a cookie domain/path issue. Run this script to fix it:
I type in my username and password...it says 'Thank you for Logging In' and it brings me back to the login. ...and every time, it adds an & to the query string (ignore the brackets...the s was stripped when I posted this): non-pro/testvb/admincp/?&&&[s]=b5a4940b657941fe8515e1ca1a4b2d7f
And then leave your cookie domain and path at the default settings. There is no reason to change these. If you need to specify a unique cookie, use the cookie prefix setting in config.php instead.Leave a comment:

Make sure there is no whitespace or extra lines in config.php either before the <?php or after the ?>. This is the source of this problem.Leave a comment:

Ok.. so I have not changed anything on the file other than what I have mentioned.. how would I possibly know what lines have been added..Leave a comment:

The default config.php file has 102 lines. Yours has 104. This is definitely the cause of this problem.Leave a comment:

You say I have white space but yet I did not change ANYTHING other than the name of the database, username, password.. etc... everything is the way I downloaded it..Leave a comment:
