• How to make existing forums into a sub forum?

In my forum, I have a category called Archive. Currently, 4 forums were created under that category. They have many posts already.

How do I make these 4 forums into sub forums under the Archive category?

To make them collapsable, I read somewhere here that I have to change the forum display depth settings?

Thank you.

Admin Control Panel > Forums & Moderators > Forum Manager > Modify the forum you want to make as a sub forum, on the page that loads with all its options, select from parent the category you want to put it below.

Do I have to make the top category a forum too before this can be done?

Currently, the Archive category isn't a forum (Act as Forum under Posting Option is set to NO). All of the real forums below it has the parent set to Archive.

I guess I am a bit confused.

I see a few other people having similar questions. Is there a tutorial or a thread that someone can refer?

Did a search, but the explanations weren't too understandable.

Thanks.

Not sure what the confusion is. Floris explained how to do this. What are you doing exactly and what is not working?

I see what Floris explained, but when I looked at the admincp, it already shows that these existing forums are child forums for Archive. However, when I change the forum display depth, all of the other forums that I have on the board also collapsed to only show the top category. I only want one category to do that.

My confusion is that I see the "add subform" options in the the forum manager, but these forums were imported from phpBB. When I choose "add subforum", it is as if I wanted to add a new forum, but I don't. I want to change the subforms to attach to the top category, but according to the subforums options themselves, they are already attached to the top category. So, that is why I am confused. I hope that I didn't confuse you.

Thanks.

What's the URL to your forums and what are you trying to do exactly? Also what forum depth settings do you have now?

The confusion is probably with a category being a forum still.

Go through the forum options of the forum you want to appear as a category.

One of the options is the question 'if this a forum: no (if no, behaves as category)'.

My forum is private, so it won't show without being logged in. If you want, I can give you admin access to check it out.

The forum depth setting is:
Depth of Forums - Forum Home: 2
Depth of Forums - Forum Display: 2
Depth of Sub-Forums: 0

The Archive is NOT a forum (and accordingly set to NO for being a forum), just a category.

Right now, the hierarchy is in the attachment (I hope that you can see it).

I would like to make this Archive category either collapse and expand, or like what this guy wants in his post (see his attachment):

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147977

Thanks.

The way you have it set up currently will allow users to collapse forums using the button.

If you only want forums to show up as textlinks (like ), you'll have to set the Depth of Forums - Forum Home: 2 setting to 1.
This will make the same happen to any other categories you have though, which I don't think is what you want.

When I set Forums - Forum Home: 2 setting to 1 as you described, all of the forums colapsed. I cannot even open them up

Yes, I would like to have the textlinks as you've shown in your attachment, but as you can see, it didn't happen for me.

And yes, I would only want one category to do that.

Thank you for your help.

You can't do that without modifying the code, sorry.

You can ask for help with modifying the code at vbulletin.org

Thank you for your reply.

At least now I know that this is not possible by default.

I saw my answer today with this post:

I needed to make another forum under the category. That did the trick.
