  • Installation Error

    Hello,

I'm upgrading from vBulletin 2.3.0 - vBulletin 3.0.7, and I recieve the following error.

    PHP Code:
    Database error in vBulletin :

Invalid SQLSELECT FROM pmtext ORDER BY pmtextid DESC LIMIT 1
    mysql error
    Table 'theorang_board_upgrade.pmtext' doesn't exist

    mysql error number: 1146
Date: Thursday 21st of July 2005 11:36:39 PM
    Script: http://www.theorangecounty.net/foru...step=6&rand=840
Whenever I go to /upgrade.php, I'm taken immediatly to step 6, it's strange, a helping hand would be appreciated.

not sure, but i think Jelsoft advices to upgrade to the latest vB2.x version before upgrading to vB3.

No, you can upgrade from version 2.2.9 on to 3.0.

Can't help you with the error so, except to say that the error message means you're missing a table.

Yeah, but do you think it's fatal or can be fixed? I really wanna upgrade and get rid of vB 2 software - luckily it's on a test board so we can work out all the kinks before upgrading on the real board.

You skipped a step somewhere in the upgrade process. Try running this query to create the pmtext table:

            CREATE TABLE pmtext (
pmtextid INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
fromuserid INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
fromusername VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
title VARCHAR(250) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
            message MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL,
            touserarray MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL,
iconid SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
dateline INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
showsignature SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',

allowsmilie SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '1',
            PRIMARY KEY (pmtextid),
            KEY fromuserid (fromuserid)
            );

Unknown column 'lastthread' in 'field list'

              mysql error number1054
Since there are probably errors on upgrade page, is there anything I can do to fix them? I guess the DB has a lot of errors.

This means that you skipped a lot of upgrade steps. At this point I sugggest restoring a backup of the database from prior to this upgrade attempt and try again. It would be best if you restored it to a new db and edit config.php accordingly.

Thanks! I will do so! - I just have no idea whatsoever on how I managed to skip 5 upgrade steps. I mean, doesn't it just consist of pressing Next Step? I'll let you know if it works after I upload a backup of the DB onto a new DB.

Database restored to the 18th - tried /upgrade.php, I noticed immediately when I typed upgrade.php and entered the URL was upgrade1.php?step=6&rand=862. DB error.

Tried typing in step=2 again, DB error. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Please post the exact full error you are getting on step 1.

It is also not advisable to skip steps.

Jumping to step 6 like this means that this is not a fresh 2.3.0 database. It already has had the upggrade attempted on it once before.

You need to restore a backup that was never run through the vB3 upgrade process.

It didn't work - I dumped a new copy of my database, copied my forum directory, upgrade 2.3.0 - 2.3.7, and tried to upgrade from there.

When I went to upgrade.php it immediately took me to step 6, and then typing in 2 instead and there was a DB error.

This was not a clean database otherwise it would not have done this. If you have not installed any hacks (which includes portals), fill out a support ticket at:
