I would like for guests/not logged in to be able to view the forum index and see the last post that was made on the index... i tried to do this just now but it says "private" on the index for that forum...I have done this before but I forget what I did didn't say private before.

i'd really like to let guests enter a forum and view the thread topics but not be able to view the contents within them.

    how do i do that?

The option to have them enter a forum and view the list of threads but not the contents of threads is a VBulletin 3.5.0 option. It can't be done in VB 3.0 by default.

    Check this out:

As far as I know, besides actually giving them read-access to the forum, this is the only way:

i did it before without the use of code

IIRC, the earliest versions of vB3 had a bug where they would show this information. In the current versions, the only way to change this is through template edits as the people above are telling you.

i haven't upgraded my version of vbulletin 3 once.

i rememer that i somehow gave permissions to guests to only view the index of my fourms and the forums they weren't allowed to enter didn't say "private"
