  • Change hosts and upgrade vb at the same time

I am hoping that this can all be done at once. I would like to open an account with new host. Install 3.0.7 (currently running 3.0.5), reinstall the hacks I need, and then change propogation and close old server out. Sorry if this is a silly question but is this the best way to go about accomplishing these two things to minimize forum downtime? If I do a backup of the db and reinstall on new server, will I experience problems with the version change?
    TIA!

This is how I would do it:

Backup the files and database from the old account to my hard drive.

Restore the database to a new account. And upload the 3.0.7 files.

Update config.php to reflect the changes, and run upgrade.php

And then re-apply the hacks to 3.0.7.

Whenever you know the IP of the new account.

Secret tip (don't tell anybody!) hehe.

Go find the HOSTS file in your windows setup (on the computer you internet with) (should be in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ or something) and add the IP and domain in it (see example).

Close all browsers and open 1 again, your browser will now think the dns already works No more waiting time!
