  • Making sure I'm understanding something right

This isn't a problem so much, but I want to verify that I'm understanding the instructions I've read before I push the 'lil red button.

Recently I had to ban a user and needless to say he was not happy about it. He has repeatedly signed onto the forum using different email addresses and IP bans don't work on him because his IP address changes every time he has registered so I'm assuming he's on dial-up or something similar. In any case, I've had to stop any new registrations and that's not acceptable to me for obvious reasons.

In any case, in the control panel banning options I see that I can ban just a partial email address like @yahoo.com. I have a huge list of free email account providers that I would like to add to the list so that new users must use an email address from a paid ISP only. (ie: @comcast.net)

Now, here's where the question comes in. There are a lot of good users that have yahoo mail or gmail, etc. and I would like for them to continue to be able to use their email account and not get a message that they've been banned the next time they log in. That would not be cool at all. Oh the angry mail I'd get then......I don't even want to go there.

If I select "Yes" under "Allow user to keep banned email address" in the admin control panel under "user banning options" the way I read it is that users that currently use free email providers for their forum email address like @yahoo.com will still be able to continue to use that email address on the forum but no new user will be able to use them. Am I correct? I have to know for certain before I do it, I've got thousands of members who would be affected by this if I'm wrong and I don't want to turn the good guys away.

Thanks in advance, hopefully this will be a pretty easy one. I'm second guessing myself on it but for good reason I think.

Yes. Existing users will be able to keep their current email addresses and this will not affect their accounts.
