Signatures not appearing for some users.

Hi,

A few users are reporting that their signatures are not working. I have done some debugging, will list that in a minute. First though, yes we do have hacks installed but there are no hacks installed in showthread or postbit templates. It is also apparent that this is a vB problem and not a hack installation because 99% of the registered user group has no problem but 1% does.

The debugging I have done:

User puts in a sig image. It does not display.

Administrator edits post and ticks on show signature (Which IS enabled by default in the users profile). The sig then appears on this post only.

User tries again with a new post. No signature...I am guessing its a permissions thing?

you allow images with dynamic urls ?

We did, but turned it off. But this is not a dynamic URL. The image is actually hosted on our server and we know the image works as I can put it in my signature and its fine but in a normal users signature it's not

Do they use ZoneAlarm Security Suite becuse i used that for a while and it will sometimes block the pics in sigs at random.

I belive the the option was in privacy to turn on or off certain types of pictures from web sites see if that helps them.

It's not an issue because nobody else can see their sig either. It's like they don't have permission to post one but it's only for a few users and they are in the same usergroup as everyone else.

Have you installed any hacks (including portals) or added any code to the footer, headinclude, header or phpinclude templates? If not, fill out a support ticket at:

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP. If you have installed hacks or added code, then remove the hacks first then check and see if you still have this problem. If so, leave the default vB files in place and fill out the support request. Please also include a complete description of the problem.

I did cover our hacks in my first post and the testing I had done

There are loads of threads about this I know because I searched, but none of them actually produced an answer. Should I just accept that it is an unknown bug? It doesn't really bother me that much so I don't want to waste time looking for a non-existant answer.

Okay. But for us to provide official supporrt for this we cannot do this on a hacked forum. We can only provide supporrt for forums running our original code. Your options are:

1. Remove the hacks (including any database changes) and restore the original vB files.

2. Ask for help at the hacking site: vbulletin.org

3. Set up a fresh test forum with all the original vB files and templates. Then if you can reproduce this problem on that forum, let me know. If not, then this will show that the problem is related to one or more changes you made.

But the code that calls the sigs is not hacked. The hacks we have in place are all ACP ones anyway (I mean in the source code, a lot of templates are hacked).

But even if the whole thing was hacked surely you could provide support along the lines of "we know that if you remove this space you will have problems". I will try at .org.

Check all your usergroup premissions very closly. Our forum had the same problem and it turned out that the users that were listed as being in certian user groups (or mulitpul usergroups) couldn't see sigs. All has been fixed now, but it took us a week to realize it was a premissions errror. One that we still don't know how the premissions got changed in the first place.

Thanks angelicGrace. I am pretty sure it's a permissions error also due to the debugging I have done. Will have a look through the usergroup permissions.
