  • Had to Ban a user.. is there a way to ban an IP address

we had to ban a user but they are still able to hit our site as a guest... is there a way to block or ban an ip address?

i see in the user banning options you can ban an ip address from registering.. but is there a way to ban an ip address from actually accessing the site??

for example the user we banned logs out and goes to the site as a guest.. he still can see but not post.. is there a way to block him from hitting thesite altogether? or even better to redirect that IP

No, they should get a 'banned' message.

Go to the online.php page as an admin and there you will see the icons listed. The legend of what an icon means is listed at the footer of the online.php page. Also, hover the mouse over the icons or the location to find out more details.

ok thanks when i read this:

IP address ban lists: You may ban any IP addresses from registering and posting. Type in the complete IP number (as in 243.21.31.7), or use a partial IP number (as in 243.21.31).

vBulletin will do matches from the beginning of each IP number that you enter. Thus, If you enter a partial IP of 243.21.31, someone attempting to register who has an IP number of 243.21.31.5 will not be able to register. Similarly, if you have an IP ban on 243.21, someone registering who has an IP of 243.21.3.44 will not be able to register. Thus, be careful when you add IPs to your ban list and be as specific as possible.

As with the email ban list, put a space between each IP number. The IP Ban prevents anyone with matching IP number from registering and posting.

(from the user banning options) i thought that ip woud just not be able to register.. but if the ip is blocked.. thats great.. and thanks guys..
