How can i open backed up attachments on my computer

I had a fairly large problem, erased all the attachments from my server. they were all stored as files, not in the database.

luckily, i hope, i had them backed up outside of my public_html directory. but when i open up the backed-up directory they look like this "12.attach" or "33.thumb". and when i try to pop them into any program (photoshop, acrobat, word, etc...) they are not the right kind of file.

how can i view these files?

put .jpg at the end (assuming they were all jpg's)

so 100.attach becomes 100.attach.jpg

100.thumb becomes 100.thumb.jpg

etc
