Change vB Version possible?

I know that you are able to edit the footer of phpBB boards and change their version numbers to another number to prevent any worms, is this possible in vB? I would be only changing the number to 3.9.9 or something.

If it's possible how?

It is not advisable to change it; you can always 'translate' the "powered_by_vbulletin" string to "vBulletin; Copyright ©2000 - {2}, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd." to omit the file version part (fully legal). However, if you must change it, you can try enabling debug mode (append $debug = '1'; to your config.php) and then do so in your Admin CP > vBulletin Options > Version Info and Other Untouchables; when you are done, disable debug mode (by removing that line in your config.php). Please note that I HIGHLY EMPHSIS on the suggestion to not change it as it may have potential unknown side effects.

Yes, the best way is to modify the phrases where it appears, rather then change variables using debug. And yes, it is allowed to remove the version number from the copyright in the footer.

You can always enable debug mode and set it from vBulletin Options, but Zachery said that you shouldn't do that.
