Replacing user pictures doesn't work here...

Ho, we allowed relatively large user pictures for a while, and now want to reduce the size of the few pics that was uploaded during that period. I'm trying to download the user pic, resize it, and uploading it in the admin panel, but this doesn't do the trick, even if I rename the resized picture.

What do I need to do in order to make this work?

...even selecting 'No' as the selected choice in 'Use Profile Picture' doesn't work. Next time I look at the same user, the setting has been switched back to Yes.

It shows up that this problem doesn't exist if I use Internet Explorer (I'm on Mac and use Safari).
