    Repair tables not working - tried repair in tools instead, database errors.

    EDIT : Well, restarting fixed it for a short time - but it is messed up again. Any ideas?

    EDIT # 2 : Well, after another restart I got into the admincp and used the repair function - it found errors at the search table and a few others and was able to fix it... so for now it works.

    Ok, I've been getting a few error emails every now and then so I thought I'd run the repair/optimize tables feature in admincp. When I clicked on it nothing would load, it would just sit for 10 minutes and then come up page not found (the repair.php file is there, I even tried going to it directly and the same thing happened).

    Anyway, I tried uploading tools.php and running the repair for all of the tables. It was working fine but then it hung up on the search table for a very long time. After a while I hit the refresh button to see if I could get it going again since it seemed like it stopped responding. This caused me to get the database problem page. I switched over to my forum and it was working fine, but then after a few minutes it crashed too. I can't login to admincp, repair.php still does not work, and now tools.php gives the database error page. The error emails that I'm getting say this :

    Database error in vBulletin :

    Link-ID == false, connect failed
    mysql error:

    mysql error number: 0

    Also, when I tried to login to the MySQL admin tool on my server it said that I couldn't because of too many connections.

    Can someone please help me out.

    Well, restarting it solved the problem for a short time but it is back at it again. Does anyone know if running the tools.php repair function can cause a loop that just won't stop using up SQL connections? - and if so, how to get rid of it?

    Thanks,

      Are you usting persistant connections?

      Look in config.php for $pconnect = '1';

      If its on. turn it off with 0 instead if 1

      Sounds like you need your server optmized, esp if you are hosting others on it.

      You cannot repair a bad connection. If the connection is down its down.

        Running repair will do nothing about this error. This error means that either:

        1) The db info in your config.php file is wrong (in which case your forums won't work at all)

        2) That user doesn't have permission to access the database listed in config.php

        3) The database doesn't exist

        4) MySQL isn't accepting new connections. (The server could either be down or has reached it's maximum connections limit.)

        Note, many servers are being probed for the phpBB worm these days and the MySQL server is being overloaded. This could account for these errors.

          Thanks for the response Steve. I'm confident that the problem arose from the incomplete tools.php process, since everything crashed once I hit the refresh button while running it. After restarting the server I was able to get into the admincp before SQL overloaded again and run repair/optimize tables. It found that the search table and several others after it were not closed properly. Once I ran repair/optimize twice they all checked OK. It has been about 12 hours since then and not 1 error message.
