  • HELP! Yahoo is attacking my forums!

On a rather small forums, I just noticed our "Guest" count jumped to over 450 users. This is about triple the normal traffic. I looked in the guest list, and many IPs tracing back to Yahoo (like 68.142.249.198) are invading all of the user profiles as well as archived pages. The IPs are showing up as users or guests, and there are MANY different IPs.

What is happening? How can I stop this? Why is it screwing with the Online Viewers list?

Lots of people have suggested hacks or changes to prevent this, but the simple solution is often best:

Do both of the methods suggested, one of them (usually the meta with google, not sure about Yahoo!) should work.

Take note though, make sure that you don't apply this to your whole website as you do want the rest indexed as it will help get new visitors to it. However, heavy handed forum spiders do more damage than good.
