  • Help with backing up

You have some nice directions for backing up via phpMyadmin but they don't match what I see. 2 pics are attached so you can see what I see (I don't see an "export" option anywhere for instance)
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.2.4-rc1
MySQL 3.23.48 running on localhost ...

    Thanks in advance

On the second screenshot you can see what you need. (VIEW DUMP)
    Click on structure and data,
    then on select all
then check save as file and gzipped
    then press the go button
let it run for a while, it will eventually either error or present you with a .sql.gz dump to save on your hard drive.

There are several check boxes under where you select ALL then struture and data . Do I need any of those?
      1. Add 'drop table'
      2. Complete inserts
      3. Extended inserts
      4. Use backquotes with tables and fields' names
I have had it generate a zip and a gz successfully

Lets say my host's sql server takes a total dive and all data is lost. Ok - I reinstall Vbulletin and my portal software then how would I manipulate the sql file to repopulate the database? I honestly don't see how to do that

      Thanks

          This works for me:

          Add 'drop table'
          Yes.

          Complete inserts
          No.

          Extended inserts
          No.

Use backquotes with tables and fields' names
I don't see this option in my phpMyAdmin, Instead i have:

Enclose table and field names with backquotes
          And I do check this.

            Thanks Steve!
I think by backup strategy is going to be to mirror the entire siite on my HDD including the ZIP created as mentioned in this thread.

In case of server crash I SHOULD be able to reinstall Vbulletin, VBportal and move my files over the fresh install then populate the newly created database on my hosts sql server.

2 questions: Briefly, what are the options for that you said don't use?
How do I use the sipped sql file to restore should the need arise?

            Thanks so much!

              1. Sorry, I don't know.

              2. Upload the file a query in phpMyAdmin in the SQL tab.
