  • DO I need Windows XP to run this software?

I downloaded Vbulletin, and now I cannot get it to upload. I have Windows 98 on my computer is that going to be a problem running the Vbulletin software?

I keeps asking me: Open With? and a box comes up when I go to config.php.net

    Help!

delete .new off the end of the file name and you should be fine, it should then open your php editor program

Are you trying to install vB on your computer just to use for development/testing purposes?

It's meant to be installed online, and the install instructions are here:

If you want to install on localhost for dev purposes, you can do it by using an application such as PHPTriad

You are aware to run vBulletin, you need to have a webserver that is configured to be able to run php and mysql in some form.

Most of the time you are going to need a web hosting provider so that others can access your message board.

              http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/preparefiles

If you look at this page, it shows vbulletin 3-0-0.zip and says to go to extract all, that does not come up anywhere on my computer. What did I do wrong?

If you are using windows 98 you will need winzip or winrar or some program that understands archives to be able to unzip the file. Windows XP comes builtin with compression tool to unarchive zip folders.

If you want to be able to setup configure and allow everyone access to the board, then yes. If you just want to use it on your localhost, no.

It appears as if it unziped the files, but It does not seem to have the right program to run them

I just want to set it up as a local host, then in a few days I will connect it to the host. What am I doing wrong?

As mentioned above, you need to edit the config file with a PHP editor. There are plenty of them available such as TextPad, UltraEdit, etc.

Once you have done this, you will need to upload the files to your web server.

For installation on your local computer, read here:
