  • User says he can get to my site, but can't get to the board

I have a guy who says that, from his home PC, he can't get to my board. http://www.wichitaracing.com/forums/

I asked if he was getting "page not found" or "you do not have permission." He says he gets a "page not found" error.

However, he can get to other non-vB pages on the site. For example, I had him navigate to http://www.wichitaracing.com/pics/mmff05/mmff051.jpg and he had no problems.

Any ideas here? He said the computer is a relatively new Dell. I'm hoping it's some setting on his PC? Or maybe he's not accurately describing the error to me? He says it's been like this for months.

Give him the direct IP address, and see if he can reach it from there. If so, a router in his chain doesn't have the correct IP associated with the URL.

Something like that would keep him from getting to wichitaracing.com/forums/ but not keep him from wichitaracing.com/pics/xxxxxxxx.jpg?

Another dumb question: How do I determine my direct IP address?

Open a DOS window and issue the following command:

          ping www.wichitaracing.com

You'll get your IP back (with other info as well).

              Your syntax would be: http://67.19.241.250

                That's what I did.
There is no website configured at this address

Contact your host to see if you're on a virtual IP address. My PING shows that IP, but when I try to go to your forum that way, I get the same error you do.

Wow, totally lost track of this thread.

I'll contact my host. What does it mean if I'm on a virtual IP address?

                      Reply from my host:
You don't have a dedicated IP address for your account. That IP is the
main IP of the server where your account is located. You can purchase
a dedicated IP if you'd like though.

Is your user getting any error messages when he was trying to access
your forums? Could he access your main site? Could he ping the server?
If you provide some more information we can look into it if you'd like.
I'll work with the user and host some more.
