Installation Script Error

Just finished installing MySQL, PHP and Apache and attempted to run the installation script for vBulletin and received the following message: "vBulletin 3.0 requires that the MySQL functions in PHP be available. Please ask your host to enable this."

Now I'm running this on my own box, and admittedly am new to this sort of thing. What did I skip in the setup process that's causing this message?

You need to install or compile PHP with MySQL support. Try checking at the PHP home page:

I am getting this same error when trying to run install. Its my understanding php4 has mysql built in?


Any ideas?

No, you need to install MySQL and make sure that you PHP is compiled with MySQL support.

MYSQL is installed and running.

PHP 4 has the mysql extension compiled into it.

If this were true than you would not get the above error. What error are you getting? Do you have a phpinfo.php file? If not create a text file with this content:

phpinfo();
?>

Name it 'phpinfo.php' then upload it to your forum directory and post the URL here. This will help us troubleshoot the problem.

Your PHP is not compiled with MySQL support:

'--with-mysql'
