How do I move attachments from dbsystem to filesystem (different server)

My Buletin is hosted on a 1 GB webHotel.
But this is not so much storage as I will need much more space..

I have set up a cimputer localy with Apache server..
And it works really nice.. (I think.. My MSN is dead so I was not able to get someone else check if the conection is good)

So.. How to move them to my local server?

In manual I read that I must write:

/path/to/your/attachments/directory.

Well.. is this not only if it`s on same server as vBulletin php files?

What do I wirite there to move them to here:

http://data.tseforums.com/

(This computer is in same room as my self..and has a 200GB Hard drive)

Because I work as a media designer..
And when a customer comes to me and ask the imposible,

It's could well be possible, but it probably wouldn't be cost effective. If I read what you are asking correctly, you want to host the files on your own home computer? If so what sort of connection is it on because if it doesn't have a good upload (or if your site isn't busy) then people are going to see a slow down in the rate they get attachments.

Well curently I have 2 Mbit symetric internet..
(2048/2048 kbit/sec)

And for this I pay 700 Norwegian Kroner pr month (~106 USD)

So I think I could handle our trafic...

We opened on 1st February.. and this is our stats so far..

Onley our designer team has premission to have attachments..
and members can download them.

We make aprox 10-20 new downloads every day..
(For The Sims 2 game.. like houses, clothing, etc..

We are planing to have aprox 1000 downloads verry soon..

Ps.. we are not havign pictures as attachments.. because I think they look much better inside the post they are published.. looks more profesional ..

Have a look at vbulletin.org where custom coding of vB is discussed. I would imagine that very large forums with a lot of downloads may well of split off the attachments onto a seperate server and that you may be able to use the method they have used.

Oh and I do envy you your internet connection, that sort of connection would cost 20 times as much in the UK.....

I don`t know about internet in other countries, but in Norway it`s not usual to have bandwith limits.. so I can upload/download as much as aprox 663 GB pr month with this conection ... limited by my speed.. I think I can do both at the same time.. so total maximum trafic would be something like 663 GB x 2 at max) that is..if I use my max internet speed 24/7

But offcause for myself to upload to this server would be a different storry,,
As this server is in my apartment,, and my other computer is conected to this though a seperate 1 Gbit network card

I one had this phpBB board, and on this IT WAS verry much possible this I am asking of.

My disc space will be all used up in 3-4 months from now..
I WILL nedd solution for my problem..

I aslo begged my host to give me more space, but they said NO..onley 1 GB
(to have 2x1GB acconts would give same problem as now)

Even if it will cost me some... Please .. I`m begging you to make this possible!

I still don't believe this can be done, but have you tried using a URL to a directory that is chmod'd to 777?

If your forum gets any traffic at all your home connection would not be sufficient for hosting a website. Your upload speed is very important with hosting and a 248k upload is not going to cut it. (Trust me, I tried in the past) Also, your local ISP may have bandwidth restrictions.

You would be better off getting a cheap server at www.servermatrix.com or www.ev1servers.net

As for the attachments, why not just copy the entire site and DB to the new server then change the attachments to the local file system? Seems like it would be the easiest way to do this.

I have come to this that it might be possible to have php files on 1 server and then database on another server..so I will try to install php on my home computer then..

But I think they are expensive and their php/mySQL is verry old

I prefer to have my own box in my own hose..then I can upgrade without paying expensive fees.. and it`s in the US.. I am in Norway (north Europe) and would be not verry good ping for me to USa would it? Crossing atlantic ocean twice..
