Best methods to get listed on search engines for a specific word???

I have been trying with no luck to be listed on the major search engines for the word "garage." I know some of you are very good with this and I was hoping you could help me out. What kind of things can I do to try and get listed for a specific word?

    Thanks ahead of time.

    Luke

Perhaps this would be a good start?

Hahaha, I'm not a dumb ass, I swear.

I've already submitted the site to all of the major search engines. My site is listed on google and the others, but not for the word "garage."

Well, if you got it submitted to all the major search engines, its going to take some time to move up towards the top

Another thought...pay for priority placement like through Google AdWords?

The problem is that my site is not even showing up at all for "garage", but it does for other words and phrases.

I'm not going to pay for it to show up, that is a waste in my opinion. Not only that, but there is a lot of fraud involved in pay-per-click advertising.

Garage is a pretty common word unfortunately. You will have to have a lot of patience and hope it gets bounced to the top.

As has been said you will have to be patient. Garages are obviously the main discussion for your forum and with time google and the other search engines will start to pick up on that. At the moment google has only scanned your first page.

but as you have only been going a month, getting people to visit your site is not just about the search engines, although they help a lot. You could add your url to the links page http://www.vbulletin.com/links.php add it to other car related links pages. Try and spread the word via related forums. Don't spam and consider how you aproch 'touting' for members on other forums so as not to upset the forum owners. You could answer questions on other car forums (about garages) and include your url in your sig for example.

These sort of techniques help build a community.

                Thanks guys.

Why did it only scan the first page? Is there any way to get it to scan the archives?

I'm hesitant to add my forum to the links page because of all the spam the car related sites have been getting.

It should eventualy get to your archive, as is working correctly. Getting higher on search engines means you get spam. My site which is quite small went through a stage of 10+ bogus registrations a day (when it was a phpbb site) now with image verification and double moderation spam doesn't appear to be a problem.

Spammers at the moment like to get there links onto forums etc so that google et al will rate them a little bit higher (not necessarily for getting people to click the link although they wouldn't say no) so they try and list there urls in there members home page or they may try and some auto posting of the link or a sig even usernames with the site url may be used. I have even heard that they employ real people to sign up for forums to get around any protection but that may well be a tall tail.

The best protection against spammers is a healthy community, looking at your boards regularly, perhaps disabling pm's tell people have posted a minimum amount ensuring you use image verification and that you at least ensure that users emails are verified.
