Error uploading Avatar in AdminCP

when uploading an avatar in the ADminCP, I get

Warning: copy(./images/avatars/av_nuke.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /admincp/image.php on line 444

Any idea what this could be?

have you give chmod 777 in your /images/avatars/ Folder?
