forums not showing up as unread

using 3.0.6, and most of the time forums with new posts are not showing up with the icon for unread posts. and when they do, when that forum is clicked, the topics within are already marked read.

what's going on? how do I fix this?

also, no more than one user shows up in the "who's online" field, each person only sees themselves as the only online user, despite there being 8 or more people online at the time.

I hate to bump this, but I really need help with this.

1. Sorry I don't understand the problem and thus I have no suggestions.

2. This may be a server issue. Nonetheless reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.
