    3.0.5 to 3.0.6 upgrade problems

    Morning

I downloaded the new version and installed it yesterday, however on my control panel it still displays that the new version has not been installed. And I have a couple of folks that cannot get into the board now after the upgrade. I downloaded the new version, opened the zip file, uploaded it to the public_html folder and its still not fully installed. Both times I attempted it, I finished the install and deleted the install.php file. Can someone please help me? Thanks

    Hi there,

    To avoid confusion:

First you say you have installed the new version, then you say your upgrade isn't successful.

Please confirm you run either install.php or upgrade.php before we continue.

I'm sorry, I don't understand this sentence and how to do this? I am probably not describing the problem correctly, I am doing this and learning this as I work more and more with VBulletin.

Did you run install.php or upgrade.php

I am guessing I ran Install.php because after I overwrote the files from version 6 over version 5, the control panel prompted me to remove the install.php from the files on the server before I was able to login and proceed with regular actions through the control panel (like adding new members and such)

            That explains it then.

Installations are fresh installations, starting with 0 members and 0 posts.
Upgrades are updating these installations to a newer version.

If you run 3.0.5 - you already have done an installation, so the next step would be to upgrade to 3.0.6.

            Backup 3.0.5 database & files.
Get 3.0.6 and overwrite the 3.0.5 files.
Run upgrade.php and follow the steps on the screen.
            And then you have upgraded.

thanks alot, I will try it again tonight when the traffic on the site dies down and its not taxing the server - I am learning this as I go along, I appreciate your help and guidance

                evening

I downloaded the patch from the site for version 3 (from the link that appears on the control panel and after logging into the members area) and unzipped it and found this inside

includes folder > functions_bbcodeparse.php as a Word document (file size 52.9 KB)

I then logged into the server via FTP, uploaded this patch and the VBulletin control panel is still prompting me to install the upgrade. The last upgrade was done (3.0.5) and there are no hacks on the site. Is there something or some step I am missing?

                Thanks

Installing that patch does not upgrade you to 3.0.6. It only plugs a hole in 3.0.5.

ok - so where is the actual upgrade?

it appears that everything I have downloaded is not the 3.0.6 upgrade and I am not seeing the exact place where the correct upgrade to 3.0.6.is located to download

Stupid computer froze on me need to repost this

                      Give that a read.

There is only one difference between an upgrade and an install, and that is the file that you run to do it.

With an upgrade you run install/upgrade.php, with an install you run install/install.php
