can i limit the smilies in the reply bit, because it just makes the wsyiwyg really long and expanded, even in the quick reply bit. please can someone help?

vBulletin Options > Message Posting and Editing Options > Maximum Images Per Post/Signature

keep in mind this also limits the amount of regular images within a post

No I mean, when you are replying to someone in a thread, you goto newreply.php and on that page it shows the editor with the smilies in the right hand corner, how do I limit the amount it displays there, or how do I make it show the default ones and only show the custom ones when they click "more"

Go to:

Admin CP --> vBulletin Options --> Message Posting Interface Options

Then set WYSIWYG Smilie Menu Total Smilies and Smiliebox Total Smilies to be the maximum number of smilies to display in the new post/reply screen.
