Upgraded to 3.0.6, now problem with some templates

I just upgraded my board to 3.0.6. Upgrade was a routine operation and everything went fine (first rolled back all template mods, copied all new files over, confirmed permissions, and that the new files ended up in the right place, ran the upgrade script which completed successfully - the version number is now "3.0.6" - and finally deleted the upgrade*.php and install.php scripts from the install dir).

Then I started reapplying the template mods, and now there's a weird problem: when I make *any* change to some templates like 'navbar', the template disappears! When I go back to edit it after save (or click on 'save and reload'), there's *nothing* there - the entire template is gone as is any functionality it provided. Revert brings back the original template, but again, if I try to make any changes to the template - even add just one space - the template disappears.

Some other templates can be modified normally. For example, FORUMHOME I can edit to my heart's content and it won't go anywhere. The templates I've had the disappearing problem, so far, are navbar, SHOWTHREAD, SEARCH_FORUMS, and FORUMDISPLAY.

Any idea as to what might be the cause of the problem, and more importantly, how can I fix it? It's really annoying because now I can't bring back some of the vital mods to the templates that the users are used to seeing and using...

    Thanks for any insights!

The first thing I recommend is that you reupload all the original vB 3.0.6 non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server

Change CKEditor Colors to Match Style (for 4.1.4 and above)

I un-tarred the package on the server, so they should be okay... but that's worth a try. I'll let you know if that makes a difference.

You still may not have overwritten some of the files. This is unfortunately all too common.

Why do you roll back the template mods for an upgrade ???
I have never done that on an upgrade and always find all the template mods intact after the upgrade and just redo the mods to the php files

Wi11ie, I guess I was just following upgrade instructions to the letter.. and there's only about seven mods in use, all of which I have documented so re-doing them wasn't very difficult (until now..).

Steve, I uploaded the files again after extracting them on the PC, making sure the transfer mode was ASCII. To no avail - some of the templates still disappear when I attempt to edit them. I also tried to edit SHOWTHREAD in the standard vB3 style to make sure it wasn't a template-specific problem, and it wasn't - also vB3 default style's SHOWTHREAD disappears on edit.

What to try next? The server runs Apache 1.33 with PHP 5.0.3 with the respective hardened-PHP patch.

              Resolved (I think)

Well... it seems the problem was likely the hardened-php -patch. I installed the 5.0.4-dev (on a production server ) without the hardened-php (yeah, come and hack me ) and the problem appears to have gone away (I haven't completed full testing yet, but initially it seems the templates can be edited again). Hardened-php was a suspect because this was the first time I had rolled back the templates for an upgrade since taking it into use at around Christmas thanks to Santy (some phpBB boards run on the same server).

Also, the systems run way faster again with unserialize() fixed in 5.0.4-dev.
