mysql db password problem

Hi Guys

Rather than keep a note of the mysql database password for my vb3 database (which I would lose) I simply go to my config file to find the password.

I just updated from 3.0.0 to 3.0.5 and now the password seems to be encrypted


This is bad - I cant remember what it was and have NO idea how to recover it.

This is kind of urgent and frankly I am a bit worried

yes - I know it's my own fault - any suggestions ?

Upgrading would have no effect on your MySQL user password. Also upgrading would not overwrite your config.php file. What exactly did you do?

Well thats really weird then.

I have recently moved servers and took a backup of all the VB stuff. That version of the config file shows the password as is, ie not encrypted.

when it was moved to the new server the db name and the password for the dbuser got changed - the password i forget, thats the problem

today i downloaded the config.php file for the live and current Vb forum and the dbusrname is displayed in it but the password appears encrypted - its such a bizzarre password I cant begin to imagine I could have ever typed that in - or did I ?

are you saying the txt I have replaced by ???? is THE ACTUAL password ?

The only thing I can think of that would cause this is that you transferred the config.php file in Binary mode instead of ASCII.
