    cannot login after 5 tries

I believe it is true that if someone tries to login to your account 5 times and fails purposely (well considering they do not know the password) the actual member who owns that username will not be able to login (even though its a different ip and valid password). Why is this?

Isn't there a way around this?

Yes, that's true. This is a safety feature. Currently the only way to workaround it is to disable this option.

But some idiot is doing this to many of my members. What safety feaeture anyway (let us assume each member has a sophisticated long password)? How do I disable it anyway? Is it that bad to disable?

If you don't want this feature, then you can disable it. The user's passwords will be as strong as they have set them.

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> General Settings ->
        Use Login "Strikes" System

And actually my first response to you was incorrect. From the description:

Setting this to no will disable the system that prevents a user (with a specific IP address) from logging into an account after entering an incorrect password 5 times.
        Sorry for the misinformation.

Ok, so it will only block the IP itself after 5 tries? Because my member (whom I trust) told me she was not able to login to the moderator passworded forum in which it instantly told her that she failed 5 tries (or someone failed 5 tries for that username). I'm using v3.04

I take it the software actually keeps track of this, and it's not just a problem that can be worked around by merely deleting one's cookies, then. ;p

Vbulletin tracks it, and locks the ip, not the cookie.

Also it only blocks log in for 15 mins after the fifth attempt.
