    Database error in vBulletin???

    Database error in vBulletin :

    Link-ID == false, connect failed
    mysql error:

    mysql error number: 0

i keep on getting this email like 8 times today alone...

i never have this problems before when i use 3.0.3 but i upgrade my board 2 days ago to 3.0.4....

is this a problem with 3.0.4 or what?

my computer seems to work fine, but for some of my user they say they can't log in...there's database error for them...

Try contacting your host, error 0 and Link-ID == false, connect failed indciate that vBulletin could not connect to the database. This has nothing to do with any version of vBulletin, the only reason it could have changed is, there was a change to mysql, there was a change to config.php.

Does this happen only during busy times on your board? If there are too many webserver page-requests, you can "run out" of connections to your database. At that time, you'll get the same error.

I think I know what your problem is here...have you changed any details in your server control panel?...username perhaps?...or password?...you get this error if either of these are changed. You need to edit (and re-save) your config.php to reflect any changes you made or change your username or password back to it's original value (as in your config.php). Basically your vBulletin can't connect to your SQL database because a value has been changed somewhere.
P.S.- I'm not an expert so I stand corrected on this. I'm thinking this is your problem because I once went into my cpanelx control panel and changed my password this in turn produced the errors you have been getting, so I changed my password back to it's original state (as in my config.php) and the error messages have gone.

          Hope this helps.

          Colin.

Thanks Colin, I had this problem too, and it was easily fixed. You saved my bacon!

This can easily be prevented in the future by creating a separate database user in CPANEL and assigning that user its own password. That way when you change your primary account password, it won't hurt any running scripts.

You can do this in the MySQL section of CPANEL. You can even create a different user for each database in your account.

You should contact your host if you have made no changes to your config.php file.

                        Strange

Strange that I began getting the same error on the same day (01-23-05) as you. What server are you on?

This error means that either the info in your config.php file is wrong (in which case your forums wouldn't work at all) or there is a problem with the MySQL server. If you are sure that the db info is correct then you need to contact your host.

Note, many servers are being probed for the phpBB worm these days and the MySQL server is being overloaded. This could account for these errors.

A DDOS attack can make this happen also...

Does the MYSQL "Persistant connections" setting in config.php affect this too?
