  • Move to new host

I searched here but was not able to find this. Here's my question.

We are changing hosts. So I have to move the board to the new server. It will be the same URL as before, once the nameserver is changed.

My inclination is to install vBulletin from scratch at the new place, then import the database. But something someone said to me here awhile ago makes me think I'm doing it wrong.

Sooo, now I'm thinking maybe I need to NOT install from scratch at the new place. Maybe just copy all the files over from the old place. Change config.php to point at the right database, and import the database from a backup sql.

Or maybe I should just ask, what's the best way to move from one host to another.

Instructions for moving servers are in the online manual here:

I should have read as far as the appendix sooner. I found some other topics there I have been wondering about.

      Thanks for the heads up.
