Mails to hotmail acconts do not arrive in the hotmail mailbox of the users.

The testmail does...

Isn't the testmail send in the sameway????
So how can this be?

Hotmail is very strict on vBulletin emails, they consider them bulk unsolliciated emails and therefor block them. You might find the emails being bounced back to your inbox or they just disappear. Nothing you can do about it really. Hotmail, Yahoo and a few others are doing this more and more.

Probably because the content of the test mail is different from the email hotmail recognizes. The body content doesn't have the same text or links.
Perhaps if you modify the phrase for the body of the notification emails it gets through as it isn't caught by their spam filter.

Please update this thread if you found out if it helps to change the body of the phrase.

Another example: Some providers block the incoming duplicate emails because they consider is spam by the following rule: Has AOL Link .. like the account activation email. Sometimes just removing the text 'aol users click here: url' fixes that.

HHmm they do arrive in hotmail afterall, but in the junk mail section.
I just thought of looking there. So it is a filter setting of the hotmail spamfilter.

I'm having a similar problem with Yahoo! at the moment. I sent a test mail, and it arrived just fine. But the validation email isn't getting through to the yahoo either in the regular inbox or the bulk email...

Unfortunately there's not much you can do about this. Ttry this:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Enable "-f" Parameter -> Yes

Then try the vB email functions again. If they still go into the spam folder, then this is something the user will need to fix.

yeah, I've got the -f parameter turned on.... still nothing at my test yahoo account. How can you change the text content of the verification email?

Yes. Edit the notify phrase.
